When most of us think about a new pickup truck the first one that’s going to come to mind is the Ford F-150, and rightly so. These legendary Ford trucks have been the biggest-seller for longer than most people care to remember, but Ford certainly doesn’t take its customers for granted and this giant of the truck market just gets better and better all the time. So, let’s take a closer look at a little of what to expect from the very latest 2020 Ford F-150.
Exterior styling
Even those people who are lifelong fans of other brands would have to admit the Ford F-150 looks just the way we want a full-size, light-duty pickup truck to look. It’s big, blocky, beefy and purposeful from every angle. It looks great and modern at all trim levels, and it can even be seriously opulent as you go up the trim levels.
Trim levels
There are so many ways you can configure a 2020 F-150 that it’s hard to imagine there isn’t an F-150 available to suit every buyer and every application. This huge amount of choice starts with the choice of trim level, and here in Canada we currently have no less than 7 to choose from. The entry model is the F-150 XL, and then the range progresses through XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and Limited, and at the top, there’s the incredible Raptor.
Engines
If you think of an engine you’d like in your new F-150, there’s probably something pretty close to it already available. There are now six different engines to choose from, which start with a standard 3.3-litre V-6 and top-off with a 3.5-litre high output twin-turbo V-6. Many buyers will probably opt for the sensational 2.7-litre EcoBoost that develops 325 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque, but there’s still a traditional 5.0-litre V-8 available, and there’s also now a 3.0-litre turbodiesel too.
Capability
There have been times when rivals have managed to beat the all-conquering F-150 in terms of capability, but never by much. However, if maximum towing or hauling capacity is what matters most to you, the 2020 Ford F-150 right up there these days. Let’s face it; if you need to be able to tow more than 13,200 pounds or handle a payload of more than 3,270 pounds that the 2020 F-150 offers, you probably need to be considering a Super Duty instead.
Interior
You can have any type of interior you want in a new F-150. Even the cabin of an entry-level XL with no upgrades is a very nice place to be, but at the other end of the trim level and pricing spectrum, a Limited has a cab that’s at a level that can put some luxury sedans to shame. The amount of space inside will depend on whether you’ve opted for a regular cab, a SuperCab, or a SuperCrew, but the quality and comfort will be excellent in every case.
